Improvements to Wanstead Flats

The location of the proposed temporary briefing centre on the fairground site involves a fee in lieu of rent which will be provided to benefit Wanstead Flats and its many local users.

Possible schemes which the City of London Corporation is considering if the proposed temporary briefing centre goes ahead are listed below. It is very early in the planning stage so other options may be possible and you are invited to give your preferences on the comments page.

1. Jubilee Pond improvements. The pond is larger than the water it holds and both the function and look of the pond could be improved, for example, with additional water-edge plants, a recreational path around the pond, tree planting, or similar features.

2. Landscaping south of Bushwood. This area has been ear-marked for additional planting and this could include adding to the tree avenues - and some landscaping.

3. Alexandra Lake improvements. The lake area could be improved to include a better access path, more vegetation for wildlife, re-landscaping of the earth and silt previously dredged from the lake, and further tree planting.

Although nothing is settled it would be useful at this stage to have an idea of which of the above schemes - or some other - is preferred by the majority of Wanstead Flats users. Please use the comments form to let us know what you think.
